Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from, what're you're interests, hobbies, etc.

I am originally from Chicago but migrated down to Houston several years ago. I am a huge sports and horse racing fan. I am getting married in September and cannot wait for the big day!

Take us back to just before you started your fitness journey. What did you lifestyle look like? Any habits that weren't aligning with your vision of success?

I always try to be good during the week. I would eat foods lower in fat/calories while doing some cardio on the treadmill a few mornings a week. The weekends, on the other hand, were fatty foods washed down with plenty of beer. There was absolutely no discipline Friday thru Sunday, which really defeated my accomplishments during the week.

Describe your thought process when you decided "enough is enough", it's time for change. What were your reasons to make a real change?

The upcoming wedding was a big reason why I was ready for change. I also remember just not feeling healthy. I was tired all the time and not happy with the way I looked. Clothes were no longer fitting. In fact, I remember our New Years trip to Tampa when I had to go buy "fat clothes" because my summer clothes no longer fit. At that moment, I realized the time for change was now.

What were some of your biggest obstacles to making such a significant lifestyle change?

I am a creature of habit. I live by my routines so having to change my current routines was a major obstacle at first.

How did you overcome those obstacles?

I reminded myself of my goals and where I wanted to go. I also made my fiance aware of the obstacles and leaned on him for support during the transition to a healthier lifestyle.

How did a Personal Trainer/Health Coach help you reach your goals?

Austin set the foundation as well as a vision. I look at every session with him as a learning experience. I used to go to the gym and feel intimidated by the machines and weights. He taught me how to use this equipment and built up my confidence. Austin set me up on a journey with short and long term goals that constantly keep me motivated to succeed.

How do you feel now that you've successfully reached your weight loss goals?

Incredible! I feel healthier, happier, more confident and more in control of the decisions I make. I feel empowered and ready to continue improving how I live my life.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to make lifestyle changes for long-term weight loss?

Take it one day at a time. If you only think long-term, then success can seem overwhelming to achieve. Make short-term goals to help you along the way. I would also recommend enlisting the help of your friends and family. Be upfront about the lifestyle changes you are making. You'll be amazed at how supportive they can be and how it will help you stay on track during social situations.
